SOUTHERN MISS AUTISM RESEARCH AND TREATMENT (SMART) LAB
The SMART Lab provides assessment and intervention services for children with autism spectrum disorders. The SMART Lab provides services on the Hattiesburg campus of the University of Southern Mississippi, as well as in local school districts. Examples of services provided through the SMART Lab include social skills training, functional communication training, and discrete trial training.
In addition to services provided during the school year, the SMART Lab offers a summer social skills program for elementary-age children with autism spectrum disorders. Social skills groups meet twice weekly and utilize the Superheroes Social Skills program to teach important prosocial skills. In addition to teaching new social skills, the program focuses on promoting the use of skills in home and community settings.
